HP Web OS was for sale

HP web OS is now an open source project, but the decision to make it an open source project was not at all a part of the plan. HP was looking to sell the Web OS platform and also the other Palm assets, which it bought in 2010 for $1.2 billion.
This didn't turn out to be a good buy for HP, so to make up for that they were looking to sell this for the same $1.2 billion, but no one was interested in the platform at such a high price. HP neither had time to spend on the development of the web OS platform, the last option left was to make it open source, so that many developers around the globe work on the platform and help in developing the OS for the market.
