What to use IMAP or POP3 for my email

Many people use emails on multiple devices and sometimes they find emails missing from one or more devices, it exists on one of the devices but is missing from others. Loosing emails while using email clients is a common issue, the problem is how we use our email accounts.
There are two options when we setup our email accounts, we get the option to use either POP3 or IMAP. The mistake we do is sometimes go with the default settings and as a result loose some of our emails. What is the difference between these two options…? POP3 can sometimes delete messages from the server once it is downloaded to one of the devices and on the other hand IMAP has all the mails on the server and it just downloads a copy of the emails and sync all the devices as required. So the best option to set up the email account on multiple devices is to use IMAP service and let the mails stay on the server.
